February 2012 - The KMDF supports Connections for Homeless.

This wonderful organization focuses on "Preventing Homelessness, Preserving Community." After we met a Czech client of the shelter, we have contributed to the organization both physically and financially. Members of the KMDF group cook and serve a dinner once a month for the shelter's clients.

January 2012 - The KMDF sponsors events relating to Villa Tugendhat which was created by Chicago architectural legend, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, IIT.

The Tugendhat House, located in Brno, Czech Republic, is the last major home built by Mies van der Rohe in Europe before moving to the United States. Built in 1930 and situated on a sloping grade, the house was designed as a large and luxurious villa for Grete and Fritz Tugendhat. The house has been largely not accessible to the public throughout its history, but in 2005, plans were made by the Czech Republic to restore this structure. The series of lectures, January 18 through 21st, feature architects Iveta Cerná, Head of Villa Tugendhat, Secretary of THICOM Tugendhat House International Committee, and Ivo Hammer, Conservator/Restorer and Chairman of THICOM Tugendhat House International Committee for an illustrated talk about the restoration project. For more information visit the the KMDF Facebook.
