October 2010 - The KMDF Invites New Ambassador, Consul General, Dana Hunatova to the Women's Board SCO Ball. 

 

Ambassador Hunatova had an opportunity to be introduced to many during the Symphony Ball which celebrated the inaugural season of Riccardo Mutti, music director. The event was held at the Chicago Symphony Center, with dinner in Millennium Park.  foundation picture

 


September 2010 - The KMDF supports The Czech-American TV Herald and its project Czech Class.

 

TV Herald is filming and producing lessons in the Czech Language, called Czech Class, during the years 2010 and 2011. Czech Class is taught by Mgr. Dana Hermachova, who has been teaching Czech Language for Foreigners at T. G. Masaryk School in Chicago, Illinois, and she is receiving frequent positive feedback from her videos from her students who use these as a complimentary material to their Czech Studies. This serves also as a form of evaluation and effectiveness of the Czech Class, together with other feedback CATV gets. Articles has been published about CATV and its Czech Class on centrum.cz information server (http://aktualne.centrum.cz/czechnews/clanek.phtml?id=522846), as well as it is regularly promoted in WFLA’s monthly newsletter. Broadcasts can be viewed either online, or via Comcast Channel 19, at 7pm every Wednesday, which is the prime time.

 

September 2010 - The KMDF Board of Directors travel to Prague to plan upcoming Regina's Hope Medical Program Seminar

 
   

August 2010 - Czech Medical Student participates in Regina's Hope Program at Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago

 

During the summer of 2010, Hedvika Zelezna, Czech medical student, traveled to Chicago as a participant in the Regina's Hope Medical Exchange Program. Hedvika successfully represented her country and her field at Children's Memorial Hospital. foundation picture

 

July 2010 - Ambassador, Consul General, Marek Skolil returns to Prague after his successful posting in Chicago area.  The KMDF is grateful for Ambassador Skolil's contributions to the Czech community in the Midwest.

 

 

 

June 2010 - The Foundation gave a matching grant to a young man of Czech decent, Liam Healy, who raised funds for 30 Notre Dame students to travel to New Orleans for a Service Immersion Trip.

 

The students will spend one week working with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity building new houses in partnership with sponsors, communities, and homeowner families to eliminate sub-standard housing in the New Orleans area while serving as a catalyst to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Go young men of Notre Dame!

 

May 2010 – Thank you letters.

 

Hi Kristyna,
Hope all is well with you and your family. The exchange group met today for the first time since returning to Chicago. The students really did have a fantastic time, and your foundation's generous support made this an opportunity of a lifetime for 8 students. I can't thank you and the foundation enough. Again, thank you for all you have done to make this wonderful experience possible.

May 2010 – The KMDF supports The Bohemian Lawyers Association of Chicago and its reception at the Union League Club of Chicago.

 

During this event held on May 27, 2010, Ambassador Marek Skolil, Consul General for the Czech Republic is honored for his contributions to the Czech Community in and around the Chicago area. Congratulations!

 

May 2010 We are celebrating 'Europe Day 2010" with Ambassador and Mrs. Javier Ruperez, Consul General of Spain in Chicago.

 

Spain currently holds the Presidency of the EU. All EU Consulates in Chicago, as well as, their guests celebrated the establishment of the EU at the offices of Baker & McKenzie.

 

May 2010 The KMDF representatives attended a farewell breakfast for Ambassador Kolar at the Mid America Club.

 

The Consul General to Chicago, Marek Skolil, spoke about the many accomplishments and achievements of Ambassador Kolar. All participants acknowledged their gratitude for the Ambassador's contributions to creating a stronger relationship between the United States and the Czech Republic.

 

April 2010 - Candidate Interviews for the 2010 Regina's Hope Medical Program and Global Health Program

 

John Pellouchoud and Kristyna Driehaus traveled to Prague to personally interview student candidate finalists for the Regina's Hope Medical Program and Global Health Program. The selection committee was pleased to find that all of these medical students were highly qualified and passionate about improving healthcare for others. After thorough consideration, one student, Hedvika Zelezna, was selected to undertake clerkship training at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago during the summer 2010.

 

April 2010 - The KMDF sponsored The Czech Women U18 National Ice Hockey Team in a world tournament.

 

Congratulations to the all the women of CW U18 NIHT for many well-played games.

March 2010 - The Kristyna M. Driehaus Foundation is proud to support the 2010, PHASE ONE creation of Kosek Building Room Sponsorship for The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library Capital Campaign

 

The Kristyna M. Driehaus Foundation is proud to support the 2010, PHASE ONE creation of Kosek Building Room Sponsorship for The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library Capital Campaign. The Foundation is further committed to a continuing annual support for the next two years, given that sufficient progress is accomplished by The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) is the leading national institution dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Czech and Slovak history and culture. As such, the NCSML cares for artifacts, books, and archival materials related to Czech and Slovak history and culture both in the Old World and the New World.

 

March 2010 - The KMD Foundation is proud to have supported Slovak USA in presenting Czech-Slovakia's most popular indie rock  band LONGITAL in Chicago

 

LONGITAL departed their home on the hill Longital in Bratislava, Slovakia, to tour through the United States with one stop in Chicago and concerts at Klas, Café Prague ,and Quenchers before reaching the prestigious musical festival South by Southwest in Austin, TX . This unique indie rock band consists of only two members.  Daniel Salontay is the guitarist who showcases the breathtaking technique of playing  his guitar with a bow. Shina is the bass-guitarist, singer, and lyrical music poet. They blend together in precise harmony with their virtual band member Xi-Di-Nim producing electronic tracks.  Their unique sound has drawn crowds all over the world and did not escape Tony Sarabia, host of Chicago Public Radio, where LONGITAL was a guest on his world cultures show on Friday March 12th at 6:30 pm.

 

February 2010 - The KMD Foundation is proud to have supported Slovak USA in presenting legendary Czech folk singer Lenka Filipova in Chicago

 

The Legendary Czech singer and guitarist, Lenka Filipova, performed at a St .Valentine’s concert on Februrary 13th, 2010 at Klas.  During her illustrious musical career Lenka has recorded 14 albums, most of which were awarded gold  or platinum album status.  She has toured throughout Europe, Japan, and North America.  Her latest achievement is her double album entitled "The Best Of Lenka Filipova" from which which she drew for her performance at the concert at Klas.

 

January 2010 - The KMD Foundation sponsors exhibitions: “50% Grey: Contemporary Czech Photography Reconsidered” and “Recent acquisitions of Czech photography from the Baruch Foundation”

 

Please join us for the opening reception on Thursday, January 28, 5pm - 7pm

50% Grey: Contemporary Czech Photography Reconsidered and Recent Acquisitions of Czech Photography from The Baruch Foundation.

At 4pm, join curators Karel Císař and Karen Irvine and exhibiting artist Markéta Othová for a tour of 50% Grey. Support for the educational programming surrounding these exhibitions was provided by The Kristyna M. Driehaus Foundation. The exhibitions were planned in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago and the Chicago Sister Cities International program.
